Hunter Greenman is fleeing bullies, climbs a forbidden fence, and finds himself with a quest. Although not at first believing in what is happening, soon Hunter and his friends Brigid, Donn, and Sara are in the world of Faerie searching for the athame, a mystical dagger which is the only thing that will save them from a monsterous beast that is hunting them down. But triumphs can also bring further challenges and the book leaves it open for a sequel.

The writer has captured the tension of the challenges and the reader does get hooked into events. This is a strong fantasy story that will appeal to many 10 - 14 year old readers. Commended. JJo
